Aurizon job fears lurk, despite no Gladstone announcement

AN AURIZON worker based at Callemondah has said people are fearful that they will be sacked before Christmas despite Gladstone not being included in Wednesday's job cuts announcement.

"We have grave concerns about our maintenance department getting sacked," the man, who wouldn't reveal his name, said.

"It just shows we are disposable to the company."

It was announced on Wednesday that Aurizon -- formerly QRNational -- intends to slash more than 800 jobs in the next three years, as it attempts to save almost $400 million between now and 2018.

On top of the cuts to staff, Aurizon plans to shut down Rockhampton's locomotive and wagons maintenance depots and heavy maintenance sites.
