Auckland Creek Bridge closed to traffic for two days

AUCKLAND Creek Bridge along Blain Drive, Gladstone will be closed to traffic for two days from 6am on Monday.

Gladstone Regional Council engineering services portfolio spokesman Rick Hansen said the closure would enable asphalt resurfacing works to be carried out if weather permitted.

"Stage one bridge rehabilitation works started in November and traffic disruptions have been occurring intermittently, but resurfacing of the bridge deck will now require a full closure," Cr Hansen said.

The bridge is planned to re-open to traffic on Wednesday from 6am.

"Motorists are thanked for their patience during the progression of this project, and during the closure period should plan travel using Hanson Rd and Palm Dr as an alternative route while the work continues," Cr Hansen said.

Signs will advise motorists of approaching works and updates will be provided on the council's website and Facebook page.

Auckland Creek Bridge was identified in Council's Budget 2013-14 as requiring urgent repair work.

Stage two sub-structure works to repair piles and headstocks is scheduled to start in April.
