Alleged Hare Krishna stabbing: attempted murder charge
A man has been charged with attempted murder following an alleged domestic-related stabbing on the Tweed.
Emergency services were called to reports of a stabbing at a rural property on Tyalgum Road in Eungella, west of Murwillumbah, about 9pm on Sunday, February 7 this year.
Police will allege they found a 46-year-old woman and 24-year-old man with stab wounds when they arrived at the property, home to the Krishna Village.
Both people were flown to Gold Coast University Hospital in serious conditions.
The woman has since been released from hospital and police say she has been receiving ongoing treatment.
Officers attached to the Tweed/Byron Police District established a crime scene and began inquiries into the incident.
The 24-year-old man was later transferred to The Tweed Hospital under police guard.
He has since been discharged from hospital and arrested by local detectives.
Police said he was taken to Tweed Heads Police Station and charged with attempted murder, intentionally choking a person without consent and wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Police have said charges were formally laid on February 17 and he was refused bail and brought before Tweed Heads Local Court the following day.
There, he was again formally refused bail to reappear in the same court today.
