EDITORIAL: At least be fair or leave Gladstone alone

OUR great region gets enough bad press from media outside our city boundaries, the last thing it needs is for some satirist who has never been to Gladstone to make things worse.

Gladstone needs tourists - it needs people to come and visit and take in some of the great features in our fair town. It could easily be suggested that the video created by Dan Ilic will do exactly the opposite.

Mr Ilic has said the video is based on fact. But that's the whole problem with the issues in Gladstone: one person's fact is nowhere near the same as the next person's - whether or not they are both scientific experts. There are people who live in our region who criticise the fact that The Observer does not give enough coverage to their point of view - from both sides of the fence. Our belief is that we are here to provide a balanced view of all issues - and that's never going to please everyone.

Mr Ilic, just leave us alone and don't make things worse for us.
