Art Award Rescinded

THE Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum has rescinded the Murri Artist Award given on Saturday, November 10 at the Rio Tinto Alcan Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards.

The Gallery/Museum was informed after the event that the announced winner of the Murri Artist Award was ineligible to be entered into that category under Condition number three. This Condition states, 'To be eligible for the Murri Artist Award, the entrant must be a Murri artist and resident, of at least three months duration, within the boundaries of Gladstone Region, North Burnett Regional and Banana Shire Councils.'

Unfortunately the announced winner's address has been confirmed to lie outside of these boundaries.  Upon receipt of this information, the Gallery/Museum had no choice but to rescind the Award.

The 2012 Judge, Miranda Wallace, Curatorial Manager of International Art, Exhibitions and Research at the Queensland Art Gallery, was given the opportunity to select a new winner of the Murri Artist Award, but due to the small number of entries it was decided that no Award will be given this year in that category.

The Rio Tinto Alcan Martin Hanson Memorial Art Awards Exhibition will remain on display at the Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum until 5pm, Thursday 6 December 2012.
