Arson ruled out for now in blaze that destroyed machinery

CRIME scene investigators are yet to determine the cause of the fire which destroyed heavy machinery near Targinnie Rd on Monday.

However, detectives have ruled out arson at this stage.

Gladstone Criminal Investigation Branch's Detective Senior Sergeant Luke Peachey said it appeared foul play could be dismissed as the cause of the blaze.

"At this stage no criminality appears to be involved in the fire, but the actual cause of the fire is still being investigated," Det Snr Sgt Peachey said.

The fire destroyed six pieces of heavy machinery operated by McDonnell Dowell Joint Venture on a gas pipeline, before burning towards Targinnie Rd.

QFRS crews were called to put the fire out.
