Woman accused of torching car refused bail

SOBBING and with her head in her hands, Courtney Hawking, 21, pleaded unsuccessfully in Gladstone Magistrates Court to be released on bail.

Just moments earlier magistrate Jeffrey Clarke ordered that she stand trial in the District Court on charges of stealing a Holden Commodore and torching it at O'Connell on May 17.

Hawking also is charged with stealing a Mitsubishi Pajero and stealing a four-wheel drive at Beecher, which was later left on rail tracks.

Refusing bail Mr Clarke said Ms Hawking was an unacceptable risk. No trial date was set.
