An 18-year-old man appeared in Gladstone Magistrates Court today after he allegedly threatened a taxi driver with a knife at 9pm last night.

It is alleged Jordan Wheeler ordered a taxi from Barney Point and directed the driver to take him to Benaraby.

Once they arrived at the corner of the Bruce Highway and Old Tannum Sands Road, police allege Wheeler pulled a knife and demanded money from the driver.

The defendant was taken into police custody soon afterwards.

The Glen Eden man faces three charges with one count each of unlawful entry of a vehicle, deprivation of liberty and armed robbery.

He was refused bail and has been remanded in custody.

Wheeler will again front court on August 5.
