Yaralla pair put on mighty shows as titles start

YARALLA club-mates Michael Slatter and Preston White enjoyed mighty games as the Central Queensland under-16 cricket side opened its state titles campaign impressively yesterday.

Slatter grabbed 4-8 off nine overs and White, who lives in Rockhampton but is also a registered Gladstone player, grabbed 3-15 off nine and top-scored with 61 as CQ comfortably accounted for Far North Queensland.

Bundling FNQ out for just 91, scored with 12 batsmen under the state titles format, CQ passed their opponents for the loss of just five wickets, eventually finishing at 10-169.

White claimed the first three FNQ wickets to fall with Slatter bagging the next four to spearhead a fine fielding performance which also netted two runouts.

Former Gladstone player Shaun Kelly, now based in Rockhampton, scored 26 for CQ while Rockhampton's Jarvis Black posted 25.

Gladstone's Rowan Murray was dismissed without scoring, but bowled well and was unlucky to go wicketless, finishing with 0-9 off six tight overs.

Gene Shaw, another former Gladstone player now residing in Rockhampton, claimed 2-16 to also star with the ball. CQ take on the Gold Coast today.
