Woman smuggled drugs into police stationfailed smuggling

A 40-year-old Gladstone woman was yesterday convicted of trying to smuggle drugs into the Gladstone po- lice station watch house. Suzanne Patricia Doran pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to possessing dangerous drugs.

Police prosecutor Constable Steve Morris said cannabis was found in- side clothing she had passed on for her then defacto, Clinton Bernie Jurd, who was staying at the watch house on October 13 last year.

Police discovered the items in the seam of some of the clothing, and Doran later admitted she attempted to smuggle the goods to her partner by using someone else to deliver the clothing.

In court, defence lawyer Peter Vale said his client had collected the substance secreted in the clothing from various 'dumpers' and tobac- co pouches, and that she acknowl- edged there could have been some cannabis in it.

Mr Vale said Doran had wanted to get a cigarette to her partner to calm him down.

Magistrate Doug Morton said her defence case wasn't helped by her previous drug offences in 2003 and 2004.

He fined her $1500 and recorded a conviction.

Doran was also ordered to reap- pear on March 29 to face stealing charges.
