Wallabys star returns to Comets lineup

POINT-scoring wizard Ron Craig has been plucked from the CQ Extended League for a long-awaited return to the Queensland Cup this weekend.

After a five-year absence, the Wallabys captain will start at fullback for the Central Comets in Sunday's tough round-five assignment against the Norths Devils at Brisbane's Bishop Park.

Craig, 28, made his debut in the Rod Reddy-coached Comets in 2000 ? playing just one game at the end of that season.

Craig, who has scored 46 points from three tries and 17 goals in the opening four rounds of the CQ Extended League, said he was excited about the opportunity to represent the Comets again.

'I'll just play what is in front of me,' Craig said.

Comets coach Neale Crow said Craig had impressed coaching staff since joining the club in recent weeks.

'In a well-beaten side, he played really well on Saturday night,' Crow said of Craig's performance in Wallabys' 62-20 defeat at the hands of the CQU Norths Chargers.

Another player returning to the Queensland Cup this weekend is last year's Comets captain Wade Rothery.

Rothery, who walked out on the club during the pre-season, made his comeback for the Chargers on Saturday night.

The Queensland Country representative has been fast-tracked into the Comets' squad who suffered an embarrassing 58-18 loss to Toowoomba on Sunday.
