Walk of Hope training in top gear
KIM Turner and Russell Thomas have their running shoes on and are in training for a marathon walk to Brisbane to raise funds for the Leukaemia Foundation.
The pair, along with five other walkers, are taking part in the Walk Of Hope, a fundraiser aimed at addressing the chronic shortage of accommodation for regional families who had a family member being treated for leukaemia in Brisbane.
"The Leukaemia Foundation currently has two villages in Brisbane and they're in the process of trying to build another one,'' Mrs Turner said.
"What we'd like to do is fund one of the units in the complex, so we're hoping to raise $100,000."
She said the walkers had been training for the 14-day walk to Brisbane, during which they expected to cover between 40 and 50km on all but one day.
Donations have already started rolling in, but Mrs Turner said they would need local businesses and community members to dig deep in order to raise the $100,000.
"We're hoping people will identify with us and spread the word about 'those crazy people walking to Brisbane' so we can raise the much-needed funds.''
Tax deductible donations for the Walk Of Hope can be made by phoning 1800 804 444 or 4978 7622, and businesses who wish to sponsor the event can contact Kim Turner on 0417 002 046.
