Valley Stars hold off Yaralla Eagles to win



VALLEY Stars won the battle of the defence's in their Gladstone Netball Association A grade match of the round at Memorial Park.

The Stars held off a determined Yaralla Eagles to win a scrappy battle 19-12.

In other matches, Yaralla Owls defeated a gallant Devils White 34-28 and Yaralla Falcons crushed Stingers 35-11.

The feature game of the round was an intense battle with the Stars pushed all the way against a strong Eagles line-up.

An even first-half saw the Stars lead by just one goal at the break, before a 7-1 third term gave last year's premiers breathing space to win.

Debutant Tara Zielke played well on debut for Valley Stars, while Michelle Jones and Andrea Williams were unstoppable in defence. Defensive pair Andrea Moran and Kym Hetherington were the best for the Eagles.

A young Yaralla Owls showed they could be the darkhorses this season after a hard-fought six goal win over Devils White. Zoe Auty, Kristen Cubis and Sam Dippel led the way for the young Owls who have an average age of 17.

Kylie Seng again played well for Devils White.

And the Yaralla Falcons made sure Stingers rough introduction to A grade netball continued with a 24-goal thrashing.

The Falcons were just too good in all areas for the Stingers who tried hard, but struggled after quarter-time.
