Under 13 side belts Mackay in fine display

A POWERFUL batting performance proved to be the catalyst for a fine 32-run victory by the Gladstone under-13 cricket team against Mackay at Harrup Park.

Brothers batsman Patrick Hides and Mitchell Inwood (The Glen) led the charge, both finishing on 41 not out, while Luke Marsh hit a run-a-ball 36 as Gladstone scored 5-192 off their 50 overs.

In reply, Mackay never seriously threatened as Gladstone's tight line and length bowling proved effective. Brothers duo Drew McAullay (2-7) and Jon Rideout, who took 217 off eight overs were the stars of the show as Mackay were restricted to 9-160.

Unfortunately it was not the same story for Gladstone in the under-14 clash also at Harrup Park.

Batting first, Gladstone were bowled out in the 50th over for a respectable total of 163.

The Glen's Cameron Nichols top-scored with a fine 43, while Brett Robinson (31) and Jacob Mills (19) provided support.

Mackay chased the Gladstone total with ease, finishing their 50 overs on a formidable 8-225.

The two Lukes, Woof and Perkins, claimed two wickets each with the ball.

Gladstone meet Central Highlands in more junior representative cricket this weekend.

Under 11, 12 and 13 matches are in Gladstone, while the under 14, 15 and 16 teams are at Emerald.
