Trucks leave CBD for new port access road
MOST trucks will no longer use Flinders Parade to access the port due to new security mea- sures launched today.
The gates used to access the port from Flinders Parade and McLintock Street will be locked this afternoon, meaning most ve- hicles will now access the port via the newly opened Port Access Road.
However Central Queensland Ports Authority acting chairman Peter Corones said fuel trucks would still need to use Flinders Parade.
Mr Corones said the CQPA was currently working through issues so that the fuel trucks could also be removed from Flin- ders Parade.
'There are some internal is- sues to be worked through and some construction that needs to be done between the port and Queensland Rail,' Mr Corones said.
Mr Corones said the new secu- rity measures were beneficial because they encouraged the use of the Port Access Road and re- moved a great deal of traffic from the CBD area.
Mr Corones said the new secu- rity measures would help secure the port ? a move which he said was necessary in light of the cur- rent state of national security.
