LOCAL trio Elise Hackett, Emily Slatter and Hannah Webb starred as Capricornia finished runner-up at the Queensland Secondary Schools under-15 Cricket Championships in Brisbane last weekend.

All three played key roles for the team who went down in their last match, which doubled as a mini-final against Metropolitan East.

Hackett, the team captain, led by example, dominating with both bat and ball in a magnificent all round performance.

The left-arm orthodox spinner finished with the best average award, picking up eight wickets at the meagre average of 3.5. A clear illustration of Hackett's performance was her spell of 4/4 off five overs against Metropolitan North.

She backed that up with some top batting, which included a match-winning knock of 28 also against Metropolitan North. Her batting average of 17.75 was also the team's highest.

Opening bowler Slatter ended the championships as the leading wicket-taker, claiming a valuable nine scalps.

The Yaralla quick picked up three wickets in two matches, 3/12 versus the Darling Downs and 3/17 against Metropolitan North.

Meanwhile, BITS opener Webb made just the one appearance at the batting crease for a score of five, but was a top-notch performer in the field.

Capricornia Results v Darling Downs (loss), v Met North (win), v Met West (win), v Met East (loss). Overall finish: second
