Thousands to support Dan at motocross
MORE than 3000 people are expected to attend this weekend's stadium motocross in aid of Dan Horton, who was paralysed after a motorbike accident last year.
Dan's father Derek said the family was overwhelmed by the support of the community since Dan's accident.
'People have been amazing ? to think they're still continuing to support Dan even after he arrived back home has been wonderful,' he said.
Mr Horton said the whole family was looking forward to attending the event on Saturday and he was 'sure it'll be a great success'.
Rachel Ward from the Gladstone District Dirtriders Club said a number of local businesses and community groups were supporting the event.
'Everyone from earthmoving businesses, hotels and motels, bike shops, and people in the community have got behind it. Everyday people have combined with the Dirtriders Club, Clinton Soccer Club, South Gladstone Rotary and The Observer to put this event on,' she said.
Ms Ward said visitors were travelling from as far as Brisbane, Mackay and Emerald for the event, with pro riders and freestylers the major drawcards.
She said more than 100 riders were expected to take part in the event and described support from the community as "outstanding''.
'The Gladstone community should be very proud of itself,' she said.
The event will be staged at the Gladstone Showgrounds this Saturday from 2pm.
