Thief takes off with Christmas hamper

By ZOE SINCLAIRzoe@gladstoneobserver.com.au

CASSANDRA Crook faced cancelling the Christmas party for a single parents group's children after the fundraiser hamper was stolen yesterday.

Cassandra had been selling raffle tickets for the Parents Without Partners Christmas hamper all month and yesterday morning she left the prize for a few minutes while she ducked into the shops.

'The car door was open when I came back and it was gone,'' Cassandra said. "They didn't even have the decency to shut the door.'

The single mother pressed the keyless lock button but wished she had checked.

'I just feel so bloody responsible,'Cassandra said.

While she realised immediately what had happened, Cassandra couldn't believe people would have stolen the hamper, $120 and another $80 in unsold tickets.

'They must have realised what it was,' Cassandra said.

'These are the kids of sole parents.

'I've gone all over the countryside raising money for it.'

Local businesses have already chipped in to help out the group and donors can call Danielle Moynahan 4978 0880.

Anyone with information on the hamper stealing at Stockland Gladstone can phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
