Tannum surf boat crews star at Coolum



TANNUM Sands Surf Life Saving Club crews produced outstanding performances during the Surf Boat Interbranch championships at Coolum Beach on Australia Day.

All four Tannum crews tasted various success, with the under-21 Turbos crew leading the way.

The crew of Matt Bellert, Shannon Chynoweth, Jason Bedford, Joel Sherwood and sweep Tony Davis produced a fine effort, winning all five races they competed in.

Another standout effort came from the reserve grade crew of Paul Kelly, Regen Dunn, Murray Stacey and Brett Rowe, also swept by Davis.

They won the individual race and followed that well for Queensland Country in the relay.

Tannum's second reserve grade crew of sweep Doug Grimwood, Angelo Paolatto, Adam Treanor, Tim Madden and Ken Pollock placed in three races.

The women's crew of Angela Mills, Mel Frost, Leisa Lowe and Helen Sherwood had an interesting introduction to top action. A disqualification after the boat rolled over in the first race was a blow, but they bounced back to produce a solid relay race.

All the Tannum crews back up for this weekend's second round of the Queensland Cup series at Coolum.
