Strong netball teams named for state titles

GLADSTONE Netball Associa- tion selectors have named strong teams for this year's State Age Championships and Coun- try Carnival campaigns.

Netball Queensland regional development co-ordinator Tra- cey Davis was pleased with the number and high standard of players who trialled for spots in the teams at Memorial Park last Saturday.

Davis said selectors viewed the trialists in matchplay situa- tions as well as a skills session and had watched potential Glad- stone representatives closely during Tuesday night fixtures.

The Gladstone under-16 side will feature two Barcaldine play- ers, Julie Melville and Nikki Bunt, who are members of the CQ development squad.

The two will represent Glad- stone as Barcaldine did not draw enough players in the under-16 division to field their own team. Gladstone open and under-17 players will trial after Easter.

Representative training begins for both groups next Wednesday from 6pm-7pm.

The State Age Championships will be contested in Brisbane from April 30 to May 2 with the Challenge Carnival in Towns- ville on June 11-13 before Glad- stone hosts the Country Carni- val on July 30-31.
