Strong line-up selected for Open

GLADSTONE selectors have named a strong Open line-up for their first clash of the Central Queensland Cricket Championships against Callide Valley in Biloela next weekend.

Reigning Gladstone cricketer of the year Troy Webster has again been appointed skipper.

Yaralla and BITS are the two clubs best represented, with four players apiece in the 11 man line-up.

There do not seem to be too many surprises, with most of the players in good form considering the rain-interrupted start to the new season.

A good blend of experience and youth provides the balance, with a mix of seasoned campaigners such as Webster, Jaysen Chilcott and Central Queensland paceman Scott Tippet alongside young guns like Calliope's Dan Williams and BITS duo Lucas Hall and Dan Gelder.

Throw in the likes of Rob Johnson, Ken Wogandt, Heath Courtney, Brad Webber and Jay Stevens and you can see why the selectors are happy with the team.

Gladstone has also named a fresh-faced under-21 team which will be captained by Brothers' Andrew Manttan.

At this stage selectors have named a 13-man squad which will be cut by two in time for the match.

The Glen are well-represented with five selections, while BITS and Calliope players also feature in numbers.

The majority of the team have A grade experience and will go into the clash as favourites even without NQ under-19 duo Liam Kirk and Nathan Rabnott.

Both matches are being played in Biloela on Saturday, November 12.
