Stitt set to bat on, vie for record

YARALLA skipper Chris Stitt is expected to bat on when his side resumes its innings at 6-325 in today's Gladstone Cricket A grade encounter against Calliope at Yaralla Oval.

Stitt, who was unbeaten just three runs short of a double century when stumps were drawn last weekend, is predicted to bat on with his side having already qualified for the final and not needing a result today.

Although having stated he is not interested in chasing records, Stitt is also within sight of Ken Hick's Gladstone A grade record score of 250 (retired) and could better the mark today.

His partner at the crease, Jay Stevens, is unbeaten on 45 and will chase his first half century of the season if the side bats on.

Stitt's knock has taken him past the 600-run mark for the season (605 at 86.42), easily establishing him as the season's most prolific run-getter with team-mate Troy Webster the second highest scorer with 380 runs at 54.28.

After a long day in the field last weekend, Calliope will look to knock Yaralla over quickly and finish their season with a solid batting performance.

In the other A grade encounter, Brothers will look to put a positive finish to a frustrating season by securing first innings points over The Glen at Sun Valley Oval.

Brothers will chase 186 for victory ? an attainable target despite the Brethren's disappointing season with the bat. Both games resume at 1pm.
