Soccer talent take chance to tackle Roar
TONIGHT'S soccer trial matches between Frenchville invitational teams and the Queensland Roar A- League club will give several Glad- stone players their chance to shine in top company.
A total of seven players will be in action in the two trial games to be contested at Rockhampton's Ryan Park.
Talented Gladstone teenagers Michael Hamelink (Clinton) and Andrew Robinson (United), both of who qualify for under-14 compe- tition, will experience the thrill of running with the Roar, providing them with a valuable insight into the preparations of a national league squad.
Lining up against the Roar will be BITS brothers Reece and Lee Veenhoven who will turn out for Frenchville White and their club- mate John Martin, Clinton's Liam Jones and Central's David Green who will take the field for French- ville Green.
With Roar coach Miron Blei- berg stating he is on the lookout for potential young stars, tonight would be an opportune time for Gladstone players to produce a big performance.
The trial matches are part of the Roar's preparations for next month's FIFA Club World Cham- pionships Australia qualifying tournament encounter against Sydney FC.
'We came to Rocky in order to prepare ourselves for Sydney FC,' Bleiberg said yesterday.
'Preparations so far have been good and we get the chance to play another two games this weekend.'
The 2005 A-league season kicks- off on August 28 with the Roar to host New Zealand Knights at Bris- bane's Suncorp Stadium.
