SKATING fever will hit Boyne Island in April with the Kwala Skate Team headlining the M1 Cycles PCYC Skate Competition at the Riverside Skateway.

Event organiser Sergeant Marcus Cryer has organised six members of the highly-popular Brisbane-based skate team as the marquee act for the event on Sunday April 24.

The Kwala Skate Team will perform demonstrations and offer tuition for local skaters on the day.

Local skaters and BMX riders are encouraged to throw their hat into the ring, with some top prizes on offer for competition winners.

Sgt Cryer is hoping a strong local turnout will help create a great show.

'It should be a great day, the Kwala boys are really excited about coming and for the local skaters it is a great chance to show their stuff,'Sgt Cryer said.

'It is something the local youth of Boyne/Tannum and Gladstone wanted and now can work on their tricks.

'There are plenty of top prizes for the winners.

'We have had great support from Matt at M1 Cycles who has been fantastic in donating our top prize which is a GT performer BMX bike along with helmets and skateboards for other winners.'

Sgt Cryer added the Kwala team are well-known for their top giveaways at skating events and everyone can leave with something.

Competition nomination forms can be obtained at the Gladstone PCYC, M1 Cycles or C and J Leading Edge Video.
