Santa creates merry stir for Calliope kids

'CLANG!'As the ringing of Santa's bell drew near, Calliope children who had eagerly anticipated his arrival, yelled 'Santa is here, Santa is here!'

The red 4WD sleigh, streaming tinsel, created a merry stir as it pulled up outside the children's homes, as the O'Brien family ensured that Santa Claus came to Calliope for the sixth year running.

Out came Santa, and with a 'ho, ho, ho!' children came running from every direction.

Faces lit up with joy, peals of laughter and the voices of the children chimed alongside Santa's bell.

'Christmas is fun,' Tiffany Wode said.

'Santa is great because he gives out prezzies,' Tiffany said.

It was lollies all round and parents such Meagan Leed greeted Santa with a cold one.

'It's a good idea,' Meagan said.

'The kids have been waiting all day for them to come around.'

The tradition for parents Tony and Kathy O'Brien to bring Santa Claus to Calliope started in 1999, as a tribute to their daughter Lesley O'Brien who died in a house fire but had always loved Christmas.
