Ronald named Miriam Vale's top citizen



RONALD Stephenson was named Miriam Vale Shire Council's Citizen of the Year at a breakfast function yesterday. In the past 30 years Mr Stephenson has dedicated many volunteer hours to running local organisations.

Some of these have been the Miriam Vale golf, football, and bowls clubs, the Miriam Vale Lions Club, the Urban Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Colosseum Rural Fire Brigade.

In addition, he has been actively involved in organising community celebrations and events.

These included the Miriam Vale shire's bicentennial celebrations, the Commonwealth Games baton relay and the Miriam Vale School Centenary.

Mr Stephenson has also served two terms as shire councillor.

Other award winners were: Lowmead's Rebecca Dingle - Young Citizen of the Year; the Wartburg State School/P&C Association's 18th Wartburg Bush Festival - Community Event of the Year; Agnes Water's Vic Kaarilaakso - Cultural Award; Berajondo's Debra Godfrey - Sports Administrator Award; and Agnes Water's Marley Beaven - Junior Sports Award.

The awards were presented at the Australia Day breakfast function in the Miriam Vale Community Hall.
