Revitalisation in city centre on track

WORK on the CBD revitalisation project is proceeding to plan, according to Gladstone City Council environment project officer Sharon Stott .

Almost a month after part of Goondoon Street was closed to traffic, the physical appearance of Library Square has begun to change.

Ms Stott said two to three truck movements on specific days would help transport material out of the area during the initial work.

Contractors Scape Shape will then transform the area into what is planned to be a new cultural precinct.

The finished creation will include a stage area around the library and increased outdoor seating.

Ms Stott said there would be some minor interruptions to pedestrian traffic during the work.

'With anything like this, safety is the most important thing so there will be some times when people can't go into the area for that reason,' she said.

Businesses in the area have been combating a decrease in shoppers by running promotions and specials on Fridays to encourage people to return to the area.

The area is expected to remain closed until December.
