Rain plagues junior cricket



HEAVY rain played havoc with the majority of round four Gladstone Junior Cricket matches cancelled.

Only two under-11 matches were played on the weekend, with games in the under-9, under-12, under-13/14 and under-16 not played due to rain.

In those matches that were played Yaralla and The Glen scored important victories.

At Yaralla, The Glen proved to be far too good for BITS. The Glen's average of 33.5 was helped by an impressive knock of 29 by Ben Romyn, while Hayden Baynton chipped in with a valuable 15.

BITS reply with the bat never got going as they were tied down by a disciplined attack.

Lachlan Danby led the way, claiming the outstanding figures of 3/12, while two bowlers Connor Hall and Hayden Warwick claimed two wickets each. At Gladstone West School, Yaralla did enough when it counted to edge out Brothers.

Yaralla's average per batsman of 8.5 was enough by 1.5 to beat the Brethren.

Reece Richardson was the standout for the winners, top-scoring with 16 and taking 3/10 with the ball in a man of the match performance.
