Raft race will have double fun

THE exciting and much anticipated annual Gladstone Harbour Festival is starting to swing into full gear.

One of these events that is fun for all the family is the NRG Raft Race.

The 'Splash For Cash' will encourage people to dust off their lifejackets out of storage and start thinking about constructing a bigger and unsinkable raft.

Gladstone Festivals and Events general manager Judy Whicker said the popularity of the event had forced some changes.

'Last year we had a couple of thousand people watching the event and it was over too quickly, so this year we are expanding the race length,' Mrs Whicker said.

This year the raft contes-tants leave Morgan Street Boat Ramp, go under the Matthew Flinders Bridge and return to the start point.

'We are doing this because sometimes the raft races are over too quickly for the spectators,' Ms Whicker said.

For nomination forms phone Gladstone Festivals and Events on 4972 5111 or call into the office located at the Gladstone Marina.
