Public views Tannum Sands pool plan

A NEW draft report which includes a proposal for a new swimming pool for Boyne Tannum will go on public display next week.

Also included in the Sport and Recreation Facility Needs Study are proposals to use the council's 57 hectare site near its new sewerage treatment plant for multisport.

The draft report was announced to the council on Friday by the shire's Parks and Recreation manager Jeff Kidner who said the study had a 10-year horizon.

The study said the cost of implementing recommendations was likely to be beyond the capacity of council to fund 'and to this end, external funding contributions should be sought wherever possible'.

This would include partnerships with government, private sectors groups, and sport and recreation clubs.

The study recommended a possible agreement with the developers of the proposed $80 million hotel complex, convention centre, residential precinct, 18-hole golf course and clubhouse of the former Boyne Tannum Country Club.

It also recommended the design of any new pool should be within budget realities and suggested a 25-metre pool of eight lanes enclosed by a combination of fixed and drop-sided or operable walls.

It suggested the pool be situated at the proposed site for the Civic Precinct opposite Tannum Sands Shopping centre 'to maximise the benefits of co-location with retail facilities'.
