Pony club rides into big event

CALLIOPE Hack and Pony Club riders are eagerly awaiting their first major event of the year, when the club hosts the Zone 9 equitation and showjumping event this weekend.

The Calliope club is expected to be out in force for the two-day event, staged at its club grounds on Taragoola Street, with 10 new members having signed on for the year.

Zone 9 takes in competitors from Banana, Baralaba, Bauhinia, Biloela, Bororen, Cal- lide Valley, Calliope, Discovery Coast, Gladstone, Goovigen, Monto, Moura, Theodore and Wowan.

In a busy seven days for Calliope members, the club will also stage a young riders school at the Calliope Racecourse Reserve on February 25-26.

The school is designed to pro- vide young riders with skills les- sons in cross country, dressage, showjumping, polocrosse and mounted games.

Calliope Hack and Pony Club publicity officer Kathy Hopkins said the events should prove fun for riders and spectators alike.

Anyone interested in joining the club or watching the events can phone club secretary Melinda Hughes on 4975 7769 for more information.
