Plastic surgeon gets appointments

GLADSTONE residents are already being referred to Mater Hospital's new plastic surgeon.

The region's general practioners and doctors welcomed plastic surgeon Dr James Gaffield to Gladstone on Wednesday night.

His presence, when he starts on July 15, will certainly be welcomed by Gladstone residents requiring plastic surgery. Previously they have had to travel to Brisbane or Rockhampton for treatment ? an extra expense and hassle.

Mater Hospital manager Pam Zions was excited to have recruited the services of Dr Gaffield.

'We are delighted to attract yet another specialist to Gladstone, especially one in the field of plastic surgery which local residents have never had access to in Gladstone,' Mrs Zions said.

Dr Gaffield will mainly provide a variety of reconstructive plastic surgery.

Reconstructive plastic surgery will predominantly benefit cancer and accident patients.

Dr Gaffield's specialist expertise will particularly help when removing skin cancers in difficult places on the body such as the face where the appearance of scars is more noticeable.

As a fully qualified plastic surgeon in the United States who has practised in Australia for two years, he will also be able to offer cosmetic surgery.
