FORMER Gladstone jockey Brad Pengelly had the second best seat in the house as Takeover Target dominated Saturday's Group Three Summer Stakes race at Doomben.
Pengelly produced a quality ride on the second-placed Picardi Run, but was no match for what was a record-breaking display by winner Takeover Target.
Even Pengelly, who was quoted in the Sunday-Mail newspaper, was taken by the nature of the winner's performance.
'The winner (Takeover Target) was unbelievable. He's a genuine Group 1 horse and we struck him right at his best,' Pengelly told the Sunday-Mail.
Even so, the effort of Picardi Run should not be overlooked. The horse struggled to get going early, with the leaders setting a cracking tempo.
Pengelly kept his cool under pressure and ensured the five-year-old held together for his flying run home which reaped a second place finish.
The Stakes was the highlight of what was a quiet day of rides for Pengelly who continued his fine winning run at the Sunshine Coast yesterday.
The win on hot-favourite Just Ordained in the first race of the program was Pengelly's 25th in what has been a great season for him at Corbould Park.
