Past presidents visit Calliope

PORT Curtis Branch of Past Presidents held their first Sunday visit for 2006 at the Calliope Central Bowls Club.

Previously visits to district clubs for mixed social bowls were on Tuesdays. It was a very happy and successful visit with 48 bowlers on the green starting at 3pm.

During the afternoon, President John Baxter presented new member George Robinson with his Queensland Past Presidents hat band and badge.

Robinson presented Rex Gillis with his Bowls Queensland Veterans Badge.

Games director, Bob Baker, celebrated his birthday on Monday and is looking forward to his next one when he will become a Super Veteran (over 80).

Overall winners for the afternoon were Keith Rumble, Elvie Jensen, L. Duffy and Ed Mercer. Runners-up were Digby, Ailsa Hare, Maureen Rumble and Ivan Stiller.

The branch will visit Calliope Central on March 26. The April meeting, April 22 is scheduled for Biloela Bowls Club with a morning general meeting followed by afternoon bowls.

Travel will be by coach which will leave Gladstone Bowls Club at 10am. Coach fare will be $10.

Nominations for the annual State Fours will be finalised at this meeting. The Alan Davis Trophy will be contested , this year, at Bundaberg from May 12. Mixed bowls will be played at Elliot Heads, Tantitha and Burnett Clubs.

PCDBA This Sunday, at Tantitha Bowls Club, those Port Curtis District Bowls Association members who nominated for the district sides representations for the State District Sides Championships to be held in Brisbane North from May 1 to 3 will play before the district selectors.

Previously selection was made during the Fellowship shield. Nominations from Port Curtis are not known to me at this stage but I understand at least six have nominated.

The Zone 6 play-off for State Pairs Competition between Central Queensland and Bundaberg/Port Curtis Districts is scheduled for March 19 at Gladstone Bowls Club.

Ian Dahl and Elaine Kelly won the combined District play off recently against Lyn Donaldson and Kevin Appo( Bundaberg) and they will meet Col James and partner.

The winning pair will play in the State Finals Mixed Pairs in Brisbane on April 22 and 23.

The combined district annual general meeting and election of officers will be at Miriam Vale Bowls Club on March 12. March 19 is on Calliope Country Presidents day and the Easter Harbour Festival games are scheduled for March 31 and April 1.
