Parents alerted to parrot prowler near school

By CHRIS LYNCHchrisl@gladstoneobserver.com.au

GLADSTONE police have urged parents to drop their kids to school and ensure they enter safely, following reports of a prowler outside Clinton State School.

Sergeant Kev Whicker said yesterday the unknown man had been seen near Gladstone Leagues Club several times.

'There's been a male hanging around Clinton State School and the Leagues Club area,' Sgt Whicker said.

'He's been hiding in bushes and approaching children as they walk along.

Sgt Whicker said the most distinguishing feature of the man was a bird or parrot sitting on his shoulder.

Witnesses described a male Caucasian of fat build in his 50s or 60s.

'He was noticed by the crossing guards who notified the principal,' Sgt Whicker said.

'We advise parents to drop their children off and make sure they get inside before leaving.''

So far the man has not been reported in any other areas.

'He's been in the same area several days this week, but at this stage there have been no reports of sightings in other areas.

'If people do sight him we would love to know about it. At this stage we just want to try and find out who he is.'

The man has only been seen acting suspiciously in the mornings and leaves before police arrive.

Information can be forwarded to Gladstone police on 4971 3210 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
