Old foes battle first time this season

CALLIOPE and Brothers face off for the first time this season in today's 35-over Gladstone Cricket A grade fixture at Calliope's Bunting Park.

Rather than the rain which has already shortened the season significantly, it is the vagaries of the draw which have prevented the two outfits from meeting in the earlier rounds.

With the Calliope lineup featuring several former Brothers players, encounters between the two outfits are always keenly fought and, with few points having been on offer this season, both sides will look to capitalise with a precious win.

In today's other 35-overs clash, Yaralla hosts The Glen at Yaralla Oval. Originally to be played over two days, the match has been shortened to a one-dayer after rain washed out last Saturday's fixtures.

The Glen will be out to avenge a eight-run loss when the teams last met in a 35-over encounter at Sun Valley Oval in October.

The chaotic start to the season has made it difficult for clubs to know where they stand on the competition ladder but teams which snare maximum points from today's matches will significantly boost their premiership hopes. Both games start at 12.30pm today.
