Nippers prepare for state competition

NIPPERS competitors will use tomorrow's Tannum Sands Surf Life Saving Club Championships as a chance to complete preparations for state competition next month.

The club will send a contingent of 36 competitors to the Queensland Junior Surf Life Saving Championships at Kirra, with a number in contention for state medals.

It is expected that more than 1200 nippers representing 59 clubs will compete at Kirra.

For a majority of the club's junior members, tomorrow's championships, at which they will line up alongside seniors, will be their final competitive event for the year.

Youngsters in the under-8 to under-10 age division will compete in the swim, board, wade, flag and sprint disciplines. Juniors in the under-11 to under-14 age groups, and senior competitors, will line up in swim, board, rescue tube, iron person, ski, flags and sprint events. Competition begins at 9am.
