TRY SLEEPING on a bench with nothing but the clothes on your back.
That's what Jason Rose and Judy Whicker are challenging Gladstone residents to do to understand the plight of homeless men each night.
Mr Rose is a passionate believer in helping the homeless and believes this challenge will help everyone realise what it is like for these men.
He said after walking to work, he had gone past a homeless gentlemen who had nowhere to go.
'He was trying to find somewhere warm, and when he did he was moved on, which was quite disturbing, he said.
'The gentleman's name is Jack, and after speaking to him, I had offered him money and asked if I could do anything else for him.
'He said he was trying to find somewhere to go, but every time he found somewhere warm, someone or the police would move him on.
'Jack said that Irene from Kapers was kind enough to give him a doona and a pillow to sleep on.'
Mr Rose said to understood that what this man was going through would be hard.
'I am willing to wear nothing but the clothes on my back overnight to understand what these homeless gentlemen have to go through,' he said.
'I want to challenge others to join the quest as it would be well worth it and more people would understand why it is important to have a Men's Crisis Centre.'
Judy Whicker will also sleep a night on the streets, sometime next month.
'We are organising the night in July, with an exact date to be confirmed,' she said.
'I want to challenge others to raise $50 to join Jason and I on the streets for one night. We will have a night out, and find out what it is like to not have a place to call home or a bed to crawl into in this cold weather.'
She said the night would help raise money for the Men's Crisis Centre which will enable the committee to purchase or rent a building to cater for these men who are in need.
Mrs Whicker said she had sponsorship forms available for those wishing to raise the money for this event.
