New support group for women cancer survivors

A NEW support group has started in Gladstone for women who have survived cancer or are currently undergoing cancer treatment.
Called Be Pampered, the group meets at the Women's Health Centre on the second Tuesday of each month.
Yesterday was the first meeting and participants were greeted with masses of pampering materials.
The group is the brainchild of two extraordinary women, Helen Holmes and Marie Figueiredo. "In Gladstone we have Breastbuddies which is the support group for women who have had breast cancer, but there was nothing for those women suffering from any other type of cancer,' they said.
"There was a void for this kind of support and pampering,' Helen said.
So the two women set out to fill that void.
They approached every chemist in town and garnered their support in the donation of beauty products.
Then beauty therapist Lois Breadsell from Indulgence Beauty Salon offered her expertise and time and Lynne Ayscough from Gladstone Family Chemist offered her time.
'This is an honour to be able to help these women,' said Ms Ayscough.
'Both Lois and myself are very excited about this group.
'And we love this venue because it is so comfortable and very homey.'
