Murder at Agnes water

POLICE throughout Queensland were last night still searching for the man suspected of killing an Agnes Water man yesterday morning.

Police opened every car boot and patrolled every road in Agnes Water yesterday in their hunt for the suspect. Rogan Matthews died in the early hours of yesterday morning after he was allegedly shot.

The man who allegedly shot him was still on the run from police last night, possibly hiding on the Gold Coast.

Police blocked roads to search vehicles and even drove the highway between Gladstone and Bundaberg looking for the suspect.

Matthews was shot with a high-powered rifle at his Avocado Crescent address about 20km outside Agnes Water.

After Matthews was shot, two of his friends attempted to drive him to a hospital, but stopped at a house on Murphy Road where he died.

An autopsy is expected to be conducted on Matthews' body, but it is understood he was shot with a .303 rifle.

Scenes-of-crime officers and scientific officers from Gladstone and Rockhampton attended the address about 11.30am and took blood samples and photos of the scene.

Outside the Agnes Water police station yesterday, Queensland Central Regional Crime Coordinator Detective Inspector Mick Niland said police were still searching for the alleged shooter.

"At this stage we are still looking for the vehicle, a white Holden Berlina sedan which was last seen on Roundhill Road (Agnes Water) about 3.30am,'' he said.

"We believe he is armed and dangerous and no one should approach him.''

Detective Inspector Niland did not confirm or deny whether the shooting was drug-related.

"We're investigating a number of angles, but the residence where the shooting happened was the subject of drug investigations recently,'' he said.

Anyone with information should phone Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000 or Police 4974 9708.
