Motocross riders in top placings

GLADSTONE district motocross competitors made their presence felt with a number of strong performances in the recently-completed 2005 CQ Pony Express/Enduro Series.

Leading the way were senior rider Brent Stiller and junior Mitchell Craig who captured outright top placings after five rounds of intense competition.

Craig teamed up with Rockhampton's Trent Mayall to secure the final round honours in the open juniors event at the Retreat in Pioneer Valley, near Mackay, earlier this month.

The victory was the pair's fifth from as many starts, continuing their domination of the series and ensuring their status as overall champions.

The victory provided the perfect finish to their junior competition career as they prepare to step up to open senior class next year.

Third home were Gladstone pair Matthew Guse and Ben Genrich, also securing third place for the series while Gladstone's Jordan Lofts and Rockhampton's Travis Barr finished fourth at Mackay and sixth overall.

Craig and Mayall also claimed first spot overall in the outright junior class with Guse and Genrich third.

Stiller showed sensational form throughout the series to secure the senior ironman title in style by charging to another victory in Mackay.

Fellow Gladstone rider Grant Allen finished fourth to secure third spot overall. Also showing good form in the series were Gladstone's Sam Wenham and Mick Lewis who teamed up to finish second overall in the 85cc class.
