McKay adds to medal collection

GLADSTONE Hack and Pony Club competitor Karlee McKay again shone in top company when starring at last weekend's Equestrian Federation State Championships for Eventing at the Kooralbyn Valley Resort in the Gold Coast hinterland.

Fresh from winning a gold medal at the State Dressage, Combined Training and Horse Trials championships in Rockhampton, McKay added to her medal collection at the Kooralbyn event which also doubled as the Queensland Interschool State Championships.

Competing on her classy mount Marlua's Wizard, McKay, repre-senting Gladstone State High, took out first place in the junior prenovice interschool event to secure the state championship.

McKay also placed third overall in the equestrian event after recovering from a disappointing start in the dressage.

McKay and Marlua's Wizard navigated a tough cross country run to finish clear and under time before winning the showjump event to secure third place.

McKay has also been named in the six-strong Queensland team to compete at the New South Wales State Championships in Harden, 300km south-west of Sydney, on October 8-9.
