Maroons rep kicks off season

FORMER Queensland State of Origin representative Adrian Vowles has been announced as the guest speaker for next weekend's Tannum Sands Rugby League Club season 2006 launch.

Pulling on a Maroons jersey was a career highlight for Vowles who played in the NRL for the Gold Coast and North Queensland before embarking on a glittering career in England.

While in the Old Dart, Vowles played for Castleford, Leeds and Wakefield for close to a decade, winning the Super League's Man of Steel award in 1999.

A delighted Tannum Sands president Mick Kearney is looking forward to Vowles' visit, saying his experience in the game will prove to be a big hit.

'For us as a club it is great to get someone like Adrian for our season launch,'' Kearney said.

'He has had a great career in the game as a player and now as a CEO with Burleigh, so he is sure to be a popular speaker.'

Kearney said the launch would also be attended by new A grade coach Brett Horsnell, while a Sports Memorabilia auction should prove popular.

A reminder the launch will be staged at the Boyne/Tannum Community Centre next Saturday, February 4.
