Man in court on Agnes Water murder charges

A 57-YEAR-old Agnes Water man will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court today charged with the shoot- ing death of 42-year-old Rogan Mat- thews near the township about 12.15am on Friday morning.
A statement issued by the Queens- land Police Service (QPS) yesterday said the man faced numerous charges, including murder, unlawful possession of a weapon and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
A QPS spokesperson said the sus- pect was apprehended at 10.45pm Saturday night in a road block on Gympie Road near Aspley.
"He was then brought into the ho- micide squad in Brisbane and was charged later.
The arrest came after a statewide manhunt was launched, including road blocks.
Police opened every car boot and patrolled every road in Agnes Water in their hunt for the suspect.
They also blocked roads to search vehicles, and drove the highway be- tween Gladstone and Bundaberg looking for the suspect.
Matthews was shot with a high- powered rifle at his Avocado Cres- cent address about 20km outside Ag- nes Water.
After Matthews was shot, two of his friends attempted to drive him to a hospital, but stopped at a house on Murphy Road where he died.
MEANWHILE, a woman has been charged with unlawful wounding, af- ter a man was stabbed in the chest at Agnes Water about 5.45pm on Friday.
Gladstone police Sergeant Roger Willianms said police attended an Agnes Water address where a male had suffered a stab wound to the chest. The man was air-lifted from the scene to Bundaberg Hos- pital.
Yesterday a spokesperson for Queensland Police Media said at the last available report the man had se- rious-but-not-life threatening in- juries.
