A 43-year-old man has been charged with murder following a violent brawl at a picnic ground near Rules Beach yesterday morning.

Central region crime coordinator Graham Richards said a 28-year-old man from the Camelot Holiday Park was killed during the fight between two groups of men at the nearby Flat Rock picnic grounds.

Acting Detective Inspector Graham Richards said an initial argument erupted earlier in the evening between two men in their mid-40s who were at the Flat Rock picnic grounds and two 16-year-old males from the holiday park.

After the argument the two young men came back to the Camelot Holiday Park and the deceased and his 23-year-old girlfriend accompanied them back to the picnic grounds.

'A further verbal argument erupted and then a fight broke out,' he said.

Acting Det Insp Richards said it was during the fight that the deceased man received major chest injuries and had lost a considerable amount of blood.

He said the man was rushed back to the Camelot Holiday Park near Wartburg and first aid was administered. Two calls to 000 were made about 2.19am.

Police from Agnes Water arrived at the scene about 3am to find the man had died.

Gladstone CIB detectives attended the scene yesterday morning.

The five people involved in the incident were taken to Gin Gin Police Station where they were interviewed.

Acting Det Insp Richards said the deceased male had been living at the Camelot Holiday Park with his girlfriend for the past couple of months and was believed to be from interstate.

The man's body was transported to Rockhampton Hospital where a post mortem examination would be carried out.

A 43-year-old man was charged with one count of murder yesterday afternoon and taken to Bundaberg Police Station. He is due to appear in Bundaberg Magistrates Court today.
