Man airflifted after scissor lift accident
A worker was airlifted to Brisbane with spinal injuries after an industrial accident at the Gladstone Central shopping centre yesterday morning.
A Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said the scissor lift the man was standing on malfunctioned, crushing him between the platform and the bottom of building he was working beneath on Dawson Highway.
Gladstone hospital medical superintendent Dr Ian Motterally said the man was taken by the Royal Flying Doctor Service to the Princess Alexandra hospital in Brisbane yesterday afternoon.
'He was in a stable condition with neck and back injuries,' Dr Mottarelly said.
Site construction manager Gavin Robinson said it was not known what had caused the fault which resulted in the man's injury.
'It appears as though there may have been a bit of a fault in the scissor lift causing him to get stuck between the platform and the slab above him,' Mr Robinson said.
The department of Workplace Health and Safety is investigating the incident.
