Loving mother will be missed
MARIA Jennifer Kurth, more often known as Jenny, died on September 14 aged 38.
Her service was conducted at the Port Curtis Lawn Cemetery on September 20 by Reverend Lorna Martin of the Gladstone Uniting Church.
Rev Lorna also read the eulogy at Jenny's funeral service, on which this obituary is based.
Jenny was born on September 26, 1967 in the Philippines where she grew up. When she was 11 years old, she came with her family to Australia, settling in Mt Isa.
She completed high school and was the only girl to do mechanical drafting at the time. She then went to Toowoomba to do a Bachelor of Arts.
In 1992, after a cadetship with the Mt Isa Mines, she moved to Gladstone to work for Boyne Smelters Ltd and the upgrade of the Gladstone Power Station.
Jenny married Peter Oost in 1994 and, while they later separated, they remained close friends, supporting and encouraging each other.
Jenny had two children, Micaela, born in 1995, and Johnton, born in 1997.
Wanting to share her faith with her children led Jenny to attend and become involved with the Gladstone Uniting Church. Jenny's passion for being a good mother got her involved in the Nursing Mothers Association and she trained to become a counsellor.
Her focus on her children also encouraged her to study again to become a teacher and she was just six months away from completing her studies.
Jenny discovered she had breast cancer (see picture) and was determined to beat it. She underwent every kind of treatment and therapy and relied heavily on God to help her through her ordeal.
Jenny will be remembered as a loving mother, daughter, sister, partner and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.
