LOVE IS in the air at Toolooa State High School today as students give each other roses for Valentine's Day.
As part of the Year 12s' community relations committee fundraising efforts, students took it upon themselves to market the roses to the school population ? selling 250 roses across the school.
Year 12 school captain Briallen Livermore said the aim was to get more students involved in the school community.
'We want kids to be more active in the school and this is a good way to start the year ? last year they sold 24 roses for Valentine's day but we've well and truly beaten that by selling 250,' she said.
Committee member Lauren Collins said proceeds from the roses would go towards installing new speakers for the student radio station.
'We're hoping to improve our radio station network with some new speakers and we're also doing a blood drive for Valentine's Day,' she said.
Vice captain Byron Coleman said the students had adopted various marketing strategies to encourage students to take part in the fundraiser.
'We put it in the school notices, on the billboard, announced it on parades and on the school radio system, as well as sticking up posters around the school,' he said.
The students said this was the first of many planned activities to promote Toolooa State High School to students and the wider community this year.
