Locals hit AFL schools trials

A HANDFUL of Gladstone Mudcrabs juniors made the long trip to Mackay last week as part of the Port Curtis team for the Capricornia Schools AFL trials at Illawong Park.

Carl Niven, Travis Monish, Jay Gardiner, Taran Chirgwin, Dane Stewart and Ethan Salgado made up part of the Port Curtis team who split their two matches in the Sugar City.

Port Curtis lost their first match against a very strong Mackay outfit, but bounced back in fine style with a nice win over Keppel Coast.

Carl Niven was rewarded for his fine performances on the day with selection in the Capricornia schools team.

Coach Greg McCallum was very happy with his team's effort and thanked all the managers and volunteers for their help on the day.
