BLONDE hair and ice hockey are what Ben Page and Jared Boyle know about Finland at the moment, but they are looking forward to learning a whole lot more.

The two local lads will travel to the Scandinavian country tomorrow to represent Australia in the International Youth Skill Olympics.

Both employed at the Central Queensland Ports Authority (CQPA), Ben and Jared have spent the past three months honing their skills for the competition.

Ben and Jared were named as the only Queensland representatives in the 24-member Australian team after winning gold medals in their respective categories at the National Worldskills competition held in Brisbane last year.

Jared will compete in the industrial control category, while Ben will compete in the electrical installation category.

'I'm just looking forward to the experience. It should be great,' Jared said.

Jared's skills are so sought after he was recently sent over to New Zealand to give a presentation to try and raise the profile of the competition over there.

Both are looking forward to pitting their wares against competitors from all over the world.

'I think we have something like 20 to 25 different countries competing in our categories,' Ben said.

CQPA's Warren Carlyon is confident the pair will bring home the gold from the prestigious competition.
